Scheduled scans in Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows hang at approximately 2-3% and do not complete on computers with large storage devices

A scheduled scan hangs at approximately 2-3% into the scan, this is irrespective of the configured options and affects computers predominantly with disk arrays. An engine defect stops the scan from progressing when certain identities scan the Master Boot Record (MBR) or Volume Boot Record (VBR) of the attached drives.
